FILER2 CHANGE SUMMARY ===================== The following list summarizes recent changes in FILER2. See the full documentation for more complete descriptions. Version 2.21 (16 May 1986) -------------------------- 1. A bug that cause FILER2 to remain in Archive mode once set (when being run interactively) has been fixed. 2. The VER command and the program logo now show the correct version number. Version 2.20 (15 May 1986) -------------------------- 1. The new /q (Quiet) switch can be used to suppress all overwrite/erase confirmations. Be careful with this. 2. The /a (Archive) switch now affects FIND and DIR as well as COPY. 3. The FIND display includes file size, date, and time. 4. WHEREis is now a synonym for FIND. 5. A null entry at the FILER prompt is simply ignored; in order to get HELP, you must type HELP or '?'. 6. The command "DOS" with no arguments now "shells" to a new copy of DOS, from which you may execute multiple DOS commands. Type EXIT to return to FILER2. 7. FILER2 now uses DOS block operations for screen output (rather than character output), so screen displays are much faster on those systems that use console raw mode. 8. RMDIR, CHDIR, and MKDIR can now be abbreviated to three characters as stated in the documentation. 9. An error in the C library that caused program crashes during operations on SUBSTituted drives higher than P: has been fixed. 10. A bug that allowed you to copy a file to itself has been fixed. Version 2.10 ------------ 1. MOVE and RENAME are no longer synonyms. They have been reworked to behave more logically; use RENAME to change file names, and MOVE to move files. The interpretation of the destination directory name for MOVE has been changed, too. Read the documentation on MOVE; the changes are significant. 2. The COPY command now supports devices CON, PRN, LPT1, LPT2, COM1, COM2, and AUX as source or destination for file copies. 3. The TYPE and FREE commands are new. The HELP command, previously undocumented, is now documented. 4. When used in interactive mode, FILER2 displays the default drive and directory as part of its prompt. 5. DELETE now requires that at least some portion of a filename be specified; previously, "DELETE C:\SOMEDIR" would delete all files on directory C:\SOMEDIR. Even though all files to be deleted were listed, and confirmation was obtained, there was some possibility of accidental mass erasure. Beginning with this version, at least "DELETE C:\SOMEDIR\*" is required. Copr (c) 1986 By Christopher J. Dunford The Cove Software Group P.O.
