LAMS Local Area Mapping System It is only with the advent of micro computer technology that˙demographic mapping for small organizations has become possible.˙Even though we know that individuals live in specific geographic˙locations, we are rarely in a position to determine whether˙services provided to people show geographic patterns. The˙existence of such patterns would inform an organization of the˙efficiency with which it is providing its service or whether˙there is an unintentional bias present in the distribution of˙those services (or goods). Knowing that such patterns are not present is of equal value.˙There may be patterns that an organization would expect to˙observe and failure to do so would raise questions concerning the˙validity of operational assumptions. †LAMS‡ is the first micro˙computer tool that allows small organizations to gain access to˙the power of mapping to determine the presence of patterns in the˙distribution of goods or services vices. Using the Texas˙Instrument Professional Computer, †LAMS‡ uses a digitized outline˙of the region along with the coordinates of the identifiable˙places within that region and the values of a measure of the˙response to the services provided to clients in that region. This˙information is then used to display a map of those services. The˙user may select the various levels that represent each category˙of response. This allows the user to focus on the distribution of˙particular ranges of service. †LAMS‡ sells for $150. Computer Consultant Services will provide a˙digitized outline of the desired region if supplied with a map of˙the region and a list of the place coordinates for $500.
