ABSTRACT FOR THE SPRING MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MEDICAL INSTRUMENTATION. 9/10/73 WE HAVE TEAMED A NEW PEAK DETECTOR WITH A SCANNER CIRCUIT TO PRODUCE AN EIGHT CHANNEL LOGGING SYSTEM FOR AUTOANALYZERS AND OTHER PEAK PRODUCING SOURCES. WITH IT YOU CAN REDUCE YOUR DIGITAL COMPUTER COSTS BY PREPROCESSING ANALOG DATA TO A SMALL SET OF ESSENTIAL VALUES. OUR STANDARD MULTICHANNEL UNIT LOGS PEAKS AND CHANNEL IDENTIFICATION ON TELETYPE PAPER TAPE. THE TAPE IS LATER PROCESSED AT A TIME SHARING TERMINAL. A MODIFIED UNIT FEEDS ITS OUTPUT DIRECTLY TO A MULTI-TASK COMPUTER AND PAPER TAPE IS USED FOR BACKUP. THE SPECIAL DETECTOR CIRCUIT SEARCHES FOR VALLEYS AS WELL AS PEAKS AND IS THUS INSENSITIVE TO DRIFTING BASELINES.THE RESOLUTION OF THE OUTPUT IS LIMITED ONLY BY THE NOISE ON INPUT SIGNAL. THE SENSITIVITY FOR PEAK AND VALLEY DETECTION CAN BE SET TO BE A FUNCTION OF SIGNAL AMPLITUDE OR SOME PREDERTIMENED CONSTANT. THE CIRCUITS ARE IMPLEMENTED WITH OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIERS AND CAN PROCESS MUCH FASTER WAVEFORMS THAN THOSE GENERATED BY MOST AUTOMATIC CHEMISTRY SYSTEMS. IN ANOTHER APPLICATION, THE SAME CIRCUITS ARE MODIFIED TO REPORT A STREAM OF SYSTOLIC AND DIASTOLIC VALUES TO A REMOTE COMPUTER FROM AN ONGOING ANIMAL EXPERIMENT.
