SCHAINBAUM SK&F LABORATORIES PEAK REPORTING SYSTEM 7/18/73 PEAK VALUES ON AN INCOMING ANALOG SIGNAL ARE DIGITIZED AND STORED ON PUNCHED PAPER TAPE TOGETHER WITH AN INSTRUMENT IDENTIFICATION CODE. THE PAPER TAPE IS THEN PROCESSED BY A DIGITAL COMPUTER. EXISTING PROCESSING PROGRAMS RUN ON AN OUTSIDE TIMESHARING COMPUTER. THE STANDARD INSTRUMENT ACCEPTS EIGHT SEPARATE ANALOG INPUTS AND LOGS THE DETECTED PEAKS FROM ALL SELECTED CHANNELS ON THE SAME TELETYPE. AFTER ALL THE PEAKS HAVE BEEN REPORTED, THE TAPE CAN BE REMOVED AND USED AS INPUT FOR THE PROCESSING PROGRAMS. THE USER HAS THE OPTION OF ATTACHING TWO TELETYPES TO THE SYSTEM AND SEGRAGATING REPORT CHANNELS TO ONE OR THE OTHER MACHINE. THIS WILL PERMIT A SYSTEM TO OPERATE WITH SHORT RUNS THAT REQUIRE FAST TURNAROUND TIME FOR PROCESSED REPORTS. THE TECHNIQUE FOR DETECTING PEAKS USED IN THIS SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED IN A PENDING METHODS PATENT. SMALL PEAKS ARE DETECTED AS READILY AS LARGE ONES BECAUSE THE INSTRUMENT AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTS ITS SENSITIVITY AS A FUNCTION OF SIGNAL AMPLITUDE. THE CIRCUITS ARE NOT AFFECTED BY CHANGES OF DURATION OF THE PEAKS. AN OPERATOR CAN USE ANY NORMAL SAMPLER TURNATABLE SPEED ON AN AUTOMATIC CHEMISTRY SYSTEM.
