ESCAPE IS USEFUL ANYTIME YOU NEED TO RUN A NON-PS/8 PROGRAM.
SEVERAL PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN INCLUDED ON THIS DECTAPE SO THAT YOU CAN BUILD ANY PS/8 CONFIGURATION YOU MAY WANT. TO BUILD A SYSTEM ON A DISK, SIMPLY LOAD PS8, CD, AND THE PROPER CONFIG AS GIVEN BELOW. (IF YOU WANT TO BUILD ANOTHER DECTAPE SYSTEM, JUST PUNCH THE PAPER TAPES OF PS8, CD, AND TC01, AND BUILD THE SYSTEM FROM THE PAPER TAPE READER AS SPECIFIED IN THE MANUAL). FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU WANTED TO BUILD AN RF08 SYSTEM, YOU WOULD FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING THREE STEPS: A) COPY PS8.BN, CD.BN, AND RF08.BN ONTO DECTAPE UNIT 1 (USING A SECOND DECTAPE GREATLY SPEEDS THE BUILDING PROCESS). B) USE THE ABSLDR TO CONFIGURE THE SYSTEM, AS FOLLOWS: .R ABSLDR *DTA1:PS8,RF08/G C) THE SYSTEM WILL HALT WITH AC=7777, PRESS CONTINUE TO RESTART PS/8. THEN USE THE ABSLDR TO LOAD THE COMMAND DECODER, AS FOLLOWS: .R ABSLDR *DTA1:PS8,RF08,CD/G THE RF08 SYSTEM WILL BE BUILT AND AUTOMATICALLY STARTED. NOW USE THE /S FEATURE OF PIP TO COPY THE SYSTEM PROGRAMS FROM DECTAPE TO DISK. IN THIS CASE A SINGLE DISK RF08 SYSTEM IS BUILT. IF YOU HAD A MULTIPLE DISK CONFIGURATION, YOU COULD BUILD IT AS FOLLOWS (ASSUMING THAT ALL THE FILES ARE NOW ON THE RF08): .R PAL8 *NEWRF8<TTY:,SYS:CONFIG DIRECT=1 /DO NOT DESTROY OLD DIRECTORY RF08=3 /SET RF08 TO THE NUMBER OF DISKS ^Z /CLOSE FILE WITH CTRL/Z ^Z /ONLY NEED CTRL/Z FOR PASS 2 .R ABSLDR *PS8,NEWRF8/G (SYSTEM HALTS WITH AC=7777, PRESS CONTINUE) A THREE DISK SYSTEM WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY BUILT AND STARTED. NOTE THAT YOU COULD HAVE BUILT A THREE DISK DF32 SYSTEM IN THE SAME FASHION, EXCEPT THAT YOU WOULD HAVE USED THE DF32 CONFIG, AND SET THE SYMBOL DF32 EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF DISKS YOU HAD WHEN ASSEMBLING CONFIG. (NOTE--ON DF32 YOU WOULD HAVE TO KEEP THE SOURCE OF CONFIG ON THE DECTAPE SINCE THERE IS INSUFFICIENT ROOM ON A DF32 FOR IT).
