RK05 disk pack. The PDP-8 packs are 16 sector packs which the -16 is indicating on the label. PDP-11 used a 12 sector pack. The drive is the same for either. The label on the right was from the company which periodically cleaned and inspected the pack. Even with the air filter in the drive and storing the packs in bags dirt can build up on the drive. Companies offered cleaning services where they would clean the pack and inspect from damage. The heads can scratch the disk if a piece of dirt gets between then and the disk, or they can hit the disk hard enough to destroy both the heads and the disk. Minor scratches on the disk were acceptable for use. Top view of damaged disk (101K)
